Cosmetic Surgeries

Cosmetic surgeries are medical procedures on enhancing one's physical features or appearance. They may involve enhancement of features through reduction or augmentation, maintenance of appearance, or correction of imperfections or defects.

Cosmetic surgeons offer patients not just actual operations, but also education and counseling.

Tracing the roots

The use of plastic surgery began in as early as 800 B.C. in India. In those times, surgeons had to restore the noses of people who had theirs cut off due to punishment.

However, it was only in the 20th century that techniques for cosmetic surgeries were first developed. The move was in response to the number of people having deformed facial features due to the World War I. Since then, procedures were improved and the services were expanded. Surgeries for the enhancement of other body parts were also developed.

Examples of cosmetic surgeries:

  • Breast cosmetic surgeries - This may either be augmentation or reduction. Breast cosmetic surgeries are available even to males. An example of breast cosmetic surgery for males is the treatment for gynecomastia (enlarged male's breast).
  • Lip cosmetic surgeries
  • Weight loss cosmetic surgeries - This includes liposuction, or the removal of excess body fat.
  • Nose cosmetic surgeries
  • Chin cosmetic surgeries
  • Eye cosmetic surgeries
  • Dental cosmetic surgeries
  • Facial cosmetic surgeries - This includes facelift or rhytidectomy, a surgery for the removal of signs of aging on the face and neck; and facial implant, which is intended for the enhancement of facial proportion, or correcting inherited or injury-caused imbalances.
  • Skin cosmetic surgeries
  • Tummy tuck or abdominoplasty
  • Spider veins treatment or sclerotherapy - This is for reducing or removing spider veins on the face or legs.

If you intend to go through a cosmetic surgery, make sure that you will be safe. Before undergoing an operation, be sure to choose a reliable surgeon. Know everything that you have to know about the medical procedure that you intend to go through. Condition yourself. Ask around. Browse the Internet.
Consult your doctor. Ask your surgeon about how to take care of yourself after the operation. Ask the risks at hand.

Also, note the cost of your operation. Research on the normal price range for the surgery that you want to go through. Don't go for surgeons that charge too high. Also, be wary about those that charge lower rates.

What cosmetic surgeries can give you

While cosmetic surgeries can enhance your appearance, they can also lead to other effects, such as increased self-confidence and self-esteem. Since cosmetic surgeries can also correct physical defects due to injury or heredity, cosmetic surgeries may also mean a ticket to a normal life.

Available cosmetic surgeries are usually posted on the Internet. You may check them out and see the kind of surgery that you need.
